Just Say “Cheese”

April 26, 2010

Whew! We finally found some time to put together a lil’ picnic to try out the sheepmilk cheese gifted to us by our Tennessee hosts. Locust Grove Farm near Knoxville, TN, produces about 9,000 lbs of sheepmilk cheese each year! They gave us three of their four varieties to try.

Clockwise from lower left: Appalachian Spring, Cumberland, and Galloway Reserve

Sue favored the spiced Cumberland, while I really liked the Galloway Reserve, which was the sharpest of the three. All of them paired nicely with a Greenfield Vineyard rose–props to our viticulturalist neighbors Mike and Gary 😀

Someday, we hope to produce sheepmilk cheese for your enjoyment. Until then, we’ll keep working on farm infrastructure, growing the flock, and raising wholesome lamb for your table.

The cheese plate looks fabulous! I’ve had sheep cheese from the monastery near us. It was wonderful. I will patiently wait for your sheep cheese to appear on the co-op.

Look at those strawberries! I love fruit and cheese. Should always be paired like peas and carrots, milk and cookies, or ham and eggs. Glad you are still enjoying your little vacation trip!
