Now We’re Rollin’…

February 17, 2010

Here's our newest additions, born about 5 am today!

Ever since Lakota lambed last Saturday morning, we’ve been waiting… and watching… and waiting for more lambs to arrive. We’ve had some ewes looking downright miserable and have been amazed that they weren’t dropping lambs right and left. At o’dark-thirty this morning, Dumond and Oleta each had a set of twins. So far, all of our lambs are black or black with white ‘paint.’

Heading off to the barn to check on Fargo and Providence. They look pretty close to going into labor. Maybe the dam has broken?

    Gorgeous bunch! Congrats!

We’re up to 12 now, and hoping we’re on the down side of the lambing. Kidding starts in a few weeks.

What’s your boy/girl count? We’ve been surprised by the high number of girls we’ve gotten!

Right now, it’s 3 girls/2 boys. Last year, we had two-thirds girls! Most years, it really is pretty close to 50-50. I always hope for more girls, given that we are building towards starting a dairy 🙂 Some folks say that lambing at certain times of year can influence the sex of the lambs, but I haven’t really seen it work that way. Off to check for more babies!
